2010 Indiana ASA Facts Sheet – Number 1

This message is coming to you from a small representation of our Indiana ASA family.  For the lack of a better way to describe ourselves, we’ll just say we’re a temporary Transition Team trying to fill the very big shoes of our departed Commissioner, Wayne Myers.  The Transition Team consists of Mick Renneisen, Territory Vice-President, Bob Waters, President, Dave Nolan, Past-President, Butch Lehman, President-Elect, Ron Summers, UIC, Cindy Inman, JO Commissioner and John Byers, Assistant State Commissioner.

As most of you know, our long-time and beloved Commissioner, Wayne Myers, passed away on January 10, 2010.  Wayne’s legacy is the outstanding organization he nurtured since 1976 into one of the most respected and largest ASA associations in the country.  He will be sorely missed by all of us in the Indiana ASA family.

Since Wayne’s passing, the Transition Team has been meeting to assess the tasks that must be managed to continue the strong tradition of Indiana ASA and to keep our organization moving forward as we prepare for the 2010 season.  Mrs. Phyllis Myers requested that her interaction during this transition be limited to a small number of people that she selected to work with through this difficult time for her and Indiana ASA.  As you might imagine, there are many details to be considered during this transition and our team has been working diligently to address them to the best of our abilities.  Listed below is a summary of what has or will transpire in the near future.

SELECTION OF NEW COMMISSIONER

The process for filling a vacant commissioner position is outlined in the National ASA Code in Article 305.  A panel consisting of the National President (Andy Dooley), or their designee, the respective Regional Director (Tom O'Neill, or their designee and the ASA Executive Director (Ron Radigonda), or their designee shall appoint a temporary commissioner who shall serve until the next meeting of the Board of Directors.  The Board must approve the temporary status and the commissioner remains in an interim position until a review is performed at the National Council Meeting in November.

Applications for the vacant Indiana Commissioner position are now being received by Membership Services Director, Craig Cress, at the National Office through February 5, 2010.  Interviews are tentatively scheduled to take place in Indianapolis sometime during the week of February 22.  All the steps of this process are managed by the ASA National Office.

STATE MEETING AND HALL OF FAME BANQUET – MARCH 20, 2010

Our 34th Annual Indiana ASA Commissioners Meeting and Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on Saturday, March 20 at the Holiday Inn in Terre Haute.  The tentative meeting schedule is attached.  Due to the limited financial resources we have to work with at this time, we have condensed all activities into one day. Rooms at the Holiday Inn are available for $70 per night plus tax but must be reserved by February 28 to get that rate.  You are instructed to make your own reservations by calling 812-232-6081.

The Hall of Fame Banquet will begin at 5:30pm on Saturday night.  Tickets will cost $25 each or $12 for children age 12 and under.  Again, due to limited financial resources, we are requesting that all those attending pay for their banquet tickets this year.  The Hall of Fame inductees, and one guest, will be the only exceptions.  A ticket order form is also attached.  We request that you send in your ticket request and a check for the tickets by March 5 to Bob Waters, 754 Locke Court, Nappanee, IN 46550-1216.

JUNIOR OLYMPIC PROGRAM

State JO Commissioner, Cindy Inman, continues to manage all aspects of the Indiana ASA JO program.  She is planning on having the Junior Olympic Program’s meeting on Sunday, March 21 in Terre Haute.  She will be sending out additional details in a separate letter shortly. Contact Cindy 765-744-5460 or jocomm@aol.com for any information regarding the JO program.

ADULT PROGRAM

Indiana ASA President, Bob Waters, is currently responding to all calls, emails, and requests regarding the adult program.  Please contact Bob 574-221-9127 or bwaters48881@mchsi.com for information about the adult program.

UMPIRE’S PROGRAM

State Umpire-in-Chief, Ron Summers, continues to manage the Indiana ASA umpire program.  He has already sent out registration information to our umpire’s list.  Ron will be processing umpire registrations and managing the sale of umpire’s equipment.  The schedule of umpire schools and clinics will go on as planned.  Contact Ron 574-226-3071 or asauic55@comcast.net for information about the umpire’s program.

SOFTBALL ORDERS

We have continued our relationship with PaceSetter Sports in Terre Haute.  Both Worth and Dudley softballs are available for order at a discounted price.  The Indiana ASA website has current ordering information for the 2010 season.  If you wish to place an order, contact Brent Compton, 812-232-8326.

NEXT STEPS

We will be working on the details of the upcoming Commissioners Meeting and Banquet for the near term.  As additional issues arise, we will send out updates.  After the National Office conducts interviews and makes their recommendation to the National Board of Directors, we will let you know who the new Indiana ASA State Commissioner will be.  In the meanwhile, we greatly appreciate your continued dedication to Indiana ASA and all your hard work over the years.  Please be patient and bear with us as we work through this transition period.

Sincerely,

Mick, Bob, Dave, Butch, Ron, Cindy and John (aka Transition Team)
