What are the classification requirements in Indiana for my division of play?
The classification requirements in Indiana ASA are mostly determined by how well you and your team succeeded in your last year of participation.  As always, there are exceptions, so contact your local Adult District Commissioner with questions.  The general classification rules for adults are as follows:

Ø     If the tournament has between eight(8) and fifteen(15) teams, the top two(2) teams must advance to the next higher classification the next competing season.

Ø     If the tournament has fewer than eight(8) teams, any team that wins the State Tournament in two consecutive competing seasons must advance to the next higher classification the next competing season.

Men's Fast Pitch

In Indiana ASA Fast Pitch, only pitchers are classified.   This is done by the Fast Pitch Classification Committee.  All pitchers must then play in their assigned classification or higher.  The list for Men's Fast Pitch is available through this link: Men's Fast Pitch Pitcher Classifications.  Any pitcher may appeal their classification by contacting your local District Commissioner.  These appeals will be heard at three times each year:  December Executive Board Meeting; Spring Commissioner Convention (March or April); and Fast Pitch Tournament Draw in July.

How often do the classification rules change and how is this done?
All changes are made by the Indiana ASA Executive Board at their annual Winter meeting.  Amendments to the Indiana ASA Constitution and Bylaws (where our classification rules are contained) require a two-thirds vote of the members present at a meeting taking place in an odd-numbered year (like 2005).
Amendments require a nine-tenths vote of the members present at a meeting taking place in an even-numbered year (like 2004).  This ensures that most rules are changed no more often than every other year.  The Executive Board believes this provides more stability to the Indiana ASA program.
To provide input or suggested rule changes, contact a member of the Executive Board.   We welcome your input!

The Indiana ASA, Inc., follows the Constitution and Bylaws of the Amateur Softball Association of America.  The Amateur Softball Association of America has been proclaimed the sole governing body of amateur softball in the United States.  This was done by the United States Olympic Committee through the Amateur Sports Act, which was passed by Congress in 1978.
