Indiana ASA Convention and Hall of Fame Banquet

The 2005 Indiana ASA Convention and Hall of Fame Banquet was held at the Holiday Inn in Terre Haute, Indiana, March 18th-20th.  A great deal of work to prepare for the 2005 season was done, the 2006 tournament sites were awarded, and seven new members were inducted into the Indiana ASA Hall of Fame!

> Saturday evening was the highlight of the weekend - the Indiana ASA Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet.   A sumptuous dinner began the evening.  Mr. Wayne Myers presented awards to various people for their service during the previous season, including recognition of Mr. Bob Summers for registering almost 500 teams in 2005 and Mr. Dick Zurbriggen and Mr. Mikel Ropp for twenty-five years of service on the Indiana ASA Executive Board.  Mr. John Byers and Mr. Leon Zachary had been honored for twenty-five years of service a couple of years ago.

> The "Class of 2005" was inducted into the Indiana ASA Hall of Fame.  Mr. John Hoffman perform his usual magic with the induction presentations.

    Jeff Babb, Daleville, was inducted as a Player
    Julie Johnson, Alexandria, was inducted as an Umpire
    Frank Knox, Lafayette, was inducted as a Junior Olympic Coach
    John Mutz, Mooresville, was inducted as a Player
    Phyllis Myers, Terre Haute, was inducted as an Honorary Member
    Penny Rhoda, Bedford, was inducted as an Adult Coach
    John Wirtz, Indianapolis, was inducted as a Player

The Indiana ASA, Inc., follows the Constitution and Bylaws of the Amateur Softball Association of America.  The Amateur Softball Association of America has been proclaimed the sole governing body of amateur softball in the United States.  This was done by the United States Olympic Committee through the Amateur Sports Act, which was passed by Congress in 1978.
